A Hospitable Hello

Although wreaths are a beautiful part of both harvest/Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration, nothing truly greets your guests with warmth and festivity as a door knocker. Now I know it sounds a little strange to consider a door knocker in this day and age due to the overwhelming deployment of the door bell, but these lovely ornaments displayed on one's home portal deliver to the visitor a glimpse of the resident's personality. I have taken some time to sort through many different types of door knockers and have found several unique variations which I have decided to share with you below. The list of websites at the bottom will direct you to where these door knockers can be found. :)

She Sells Sea Shells by the Sea Shore...

Because it is a big part of a Southern Californian summer, I have come up with a few additions to a home with a sea shore/beach theme. Some of the items are very lovely and unique! Have a look! Items were found at Wisteria.com, cottageandbungalow.com, silvergallery.com, and seainspired.com. There are also a couple of ideas for how to create your own "beach feel" in your home from Southern Living Magazine.

And ideas from Southern Living... a mini-beach and a sea-shell garland to create for yourself and use in your home decorations! :)

Cinco de Mayo!

In honour of this holiday, I decided to find some lovely Mexican inspired pieces for a festive cocina! Bring on the chilies and spice!
First, some beautiful Talavera tiles for decor along a mid-wall border or on the walls above the kitchen counters. This use of tile is the foundation of the room decor, but not too flashy or overwhelming to the eye.
Then Talavera pottery, such as plates, can be added to the wall (preferably not the wall the tile is on).

Along with these basic elements, come other aesthetically pleasing items, such as a rustic looking table and chairs or a Mexican tin or star hanging lamp. But I love the little things, like these cute napkins and place mats I found at latinworksco.com. Aren't they great?!

Last but not least... something a little quirky? How about a pre-Columbian pottery Armadillo candle base? I love it! Great conversation piece for sure!

Mauve-elous March

I feel mauve is a nice colour if paired with the right combinations and is definitely under-rated. Here are a few pieces I found for a room to highlight the harmonious nature of the colour mauve.

A Desk for Everyone!

I decided this evening that I was going to look for a variety of writing desks and post them on here. I'm sure everyone will find at least one they like! :)
